Why do people take/make photographs? People take and make photographs for a variety of different reasons. People use photography as a way to archive specific or important moments in time and in their lives. A different reason why people take photographs is to create art pieces that look cool and are aesthetically pleasing, as time has passed photography has been more accepted as a platform of art. Photographs are also excellent ways of holding onto memories, once the shutter clicks the moment is saved forever. Why is photography important? Photography is important for a manner of reasons, one being it's ability to hold moments of history which would otherwise by lost and forgotten, without photographs a lot of things that we know about the world wouldn't be able to be taught and spread, this would result in more ignorance and stupidity, in a sense the world would be stuck in the dark ages. What skills do you need to be a good photographer? This question is very subjective and depends on an individual and what they aim to create. If you wanted to be a fashion photographer you would need a big understanding of lighting and framing, if you wanted to be a art photographer you would have to be able to trust your ideas and develop them over time. One thing that all photographers should have in common is a good creative eye, this is the most important skill as without it you wouldn't be able to take photographs at all. How many different kinds of photography can you think of? Fashion Photography, Street photography, Sport photography, Landscape Photography How does photography help us see the world? Photography allows us to see the world in a different way, it allows the eye to see forms of beauty in everything from a twig to a river. Photographs can also shape the way that someone would perceive a location or place, this association could come from colour or lighting. Can photographic images be trusted? Photographic images can and can't be trusted, the way in which one would develop the trust is entirety contextual. For example an image of a river may be photoshopped or edited to enhance its beauty but to a viewer the image is thought of as natural, if the viewer understands the picture to be art the edit on the image would not be considered untrustworthy but if they see the image as a documentation of a real place they wouldn't trust the image. What are the similarities and differences between photography and other types of visual art? Photography is similar to other visual art forms like film in the sense that the viewer is forced to pay attention to little details, the small details can change the whole concept or view of what the image means, it is also different because by watching a video you are forced to view for long periods of time whilst with photographs you can observe quickly. A further form of visual art that is similar to photography is fine art. Fine art showcases beauty and combines it with unique creativity, also art and photography are both subjective and options related to the pieces would be unique. When would it not be OK to take a photograph? In my opinion it is always ok to take a photograph, where some may feel like a dramatic situation would be inappropriate, I personally would feel more inclined to take pictures, this is because more emotion would be caught in the expressions of your subjects, I think that this makes for a better image. How do you know when you've made a good photograph? What makes a good photograph is unique to every photographer, what I perceive to be good or interesting to someone else might appear ugly or boring, to me personally I know that I have taken a good photograph when I have captured a unique moment that will never come again, this moment might be a beautiful set of flowers or when one of my friends does something really funny. Once again this question is subjective. Are photographers also artists? Photographers are defiantly artists. Like an artist who uses paint a photographer uses their work to create emotion are allow cathartic release, they are making art in every sense and should be treated like as such. Where is the best place to see photographs? At one stage in time the best place to see photographs would of been in a gallery but as technology has increased anyone can find interesting art and photographs with a click of a button, to me the best place to find photography is on instagram, unlike a gallery there is no middle man, you are literally seeing the piece at the hands of its maker. What kind of photography interests you most? The kind of photography that interests me the most is street photography. The majority of work in my portfolio would be considered street photography, this interests me because I love and am involved in street culture, by documenting this culture you are saving and archiving current trends and moments that might be important in the future.
